I always thought that hiring a party planner was a waste of money; after all,my friends are happy with a bag of chips and a cooler full of beer! But my wife talked me into letting her hire a party planner and the results were fantastic.
yes I think you definitly need to get references. Many party planners make money from kick backs from other business they hire in and so you will not always get what is best for you - you will only get what makes them the most money.
I now use a planner for all my events, it just takes all the worry out of it, so I can just relax for a while.

Hiring a planner is the ONLY way to go if you are going to hold a serious event, especially if you are holding it for a charity or organization!!!!
